Carrie Fisher, 1956-2016

cf

My thoughts and prayers have been with Carrie Fisher’s family since first hearing news of her heart attack last Friday shortly before landing en route from London to Los Angeles; and now with the news of her passing yesterday morning, 2016 continues to take a brutal toll on those larger than life figures we care for the most. More than any other titan we’ve lost this year, this one is the most personal to me; right alongside the passing of a family member this Summer. While Emo At Heart is a music site first and foremost, but it is also my site – my journal, my travel diary, and, sometimes, my confessional – and I cannot let this moment pass without adding to the already enormous outpouring of love and admiration for Carrie Fisher.

In Star Wars she was our Princess; In life she was a mother, daughter, wife, friend, and confidant. In my heart, she remains the indomitable spirit, the unstoppable force, the will to persevere. She faced everything that came her way head on, and never took the easy way out. She was vocal and outspoken about issues that mattered to her, and has left behind a legacy we can all aspire to.

I will continue to treasure her gifts to us all, both on-screen and off-, but when I see her smile at the end of Empire (above), it breaks my heart.

May her memory be a blessing.

Rest well, Princess.
