SXSW Recap: Rey Roldan (Another Reybee Production)
SXSW 2014 may have come and gone, but that doesn’t mean there still isn’t plenty to talk about. We caught up with publicist extraordinaire Rey Roldan to get his thoughts on what went down in Austin.
Rey is a two decade veteran of the music industry, and represents some of today’s biggest artists – many of whom you’re read about right here on EAH – Yellowcard, Twin Forks, and Bayside to name a few.
When asked about his one lasting memory from this year’s SXSW, here’s what Rey had to say:
I could talk about how my kids in The Front Bottoms were one of the most talked about bands at SxSW, or how my kids in Ringo Deathstarr lovingly punctured my eardrums a half dozen times, or how Plastic Visions were the most dangerous punk band I saw that week (scrotum deathgrip at least five times during their set), but while those were all great… What I’m walking away with from this year’s Fest was that this was the year that the panel I was on, Today’s Best Practices in Music Publicity had a snorer. Our panel – which was Andy Adelewitz (Paradigm), Sarah Avrin (Girlie Action), Dmitri Vietze (StoryAmp) and I – was about Publicity and how to move it forward in this day and age, and I THOUGHT we were doing great.. it was standing room only and packed to the brim… and we had people engaged, interested and, at times, laughing… but then this photo surfaced after our panel. An attendee had fallen asleep at our panel and began to snore… And I thought we did so well. *pffft*
Thanks Rey! Snorers aside, it sounds like you had a great time.
