Hey Marseilles – Eyes On You

Seattle-based indies Hey Marseilles have been hard at work for last two years working on their third studio album, the upcoming self-titled, Hey Marseilles, out February 5th. Not content to rest on their past successes, the band embarked toward a bold future with Grammy Award winning producer Anthony Kilhoffer. The LA A-lister — who has worked with Kanye West, John Legend, and Jay Z — jumped at the chance to work with the band, excited for the new directions to which they would push each other.

In a contemporary “laptop producer” driven world. Hey Marseilles is a Buckminster Fuller Geodesic Dome of music, with each member supporting and inspiring each other. One piece removed, it will crumble. – Anthony Kilhoffer

Something must also be said for the self-titled nature of album #3. I particularly like when a band, wise in there years, chooses a later-day album to self title. Often symbolizing a reset, a new beginning — nothing so dramatic as to replace band members — but a distinct line in the sand the changes the band’s vision going forward. (See Jukebox The Ghost’s self-titled 2014 release, on which they also worked with Kanye West’s Grammy Winning producing team – I’m sensing a pattern here…Yup, I’m ok with it.)

The video for the album’s opener “Eyes On You” is also distinctive in it’s own right. Directed by renowned photographer and director Charlie Schuck, it is an examination on the individual spirit and a celebration of creative thinking, capturing the band’s own balance of harmony and texture.
