The Delta Saints – California

delta

Nashville quintet The Delta Saints return with a new full-length album this April, Monte Vista – due out April 28th to be exact. Along with this news is the release of the album’s first tract, “California”, as well as a very special performance in their hometown tomorrow night before heading off to mainland Europe for a month-long tour beginning March 2nd.

The new track is jammy and dynamic and deftly weaves in and out of inspirational styles for vocalist Ben Ringel & Co.

“California” has long been an escape for the restless, and the idea of that was romantic to us Nashville boys stuck in the snow… After a session or two, the idea attached itself to some chords and melodies that we were trying to piece together. All of the sudden the song had its direction. It’s definitely a song about wanting and leaving, but not in a sad way. More so in a coming-of-age, John Hughes movie kind of way. It’s about giving into the restlessness and figuring it out as you go along. – The Delta Spirit

Now I’ll be the first to admit that I am no recording engineer, but it sounds to me as though Ringel’s vocals along with Vincent “Footz” Williams’ drums are largely left “alone”, while in contrast the guitar, bass, and keyboard tones from Dylan Fitch, David Supica, and Nate Kremer, respectively, all modulate – in both small and large ways – throughout the song’s run-time. This creates a very interesting soundscape for the track, and I’ll be very eager to hear how the reminder of the album plays out.
