Kylie Minogue – Kiss Me Once

image

Is that the voice of a goddess or an angel? It’s Kylie Minogue, so, obviously, the answer is “both”. After more than 25 years in the music industry, Minogue’s star is still shining as bright as ever, and – more impressively – is still putting out incredible music.

From seeing her as the peppy, red-haired Dr. Petra in the Pauly Shore/Stephen Baldwin classic Bio-Dome (yes, classic!) to her video for “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”, Kylie Minogue earned a permanent place in my heart.

She may be more well-known these days for her participation as a coach on The Voice UK and The Voice Australia, but hopefully the release of Kiss Me Once will change that. The video for the first single off the album, “Into The Blue”, is beautifully done with a modern-yet-classic look to go with the similar musical feel.

I could easily hear someone like Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato singing this tune but I am glad that its Minogue and her infectious whisper-like voice. “I Was Gonna Cancel” could easily become a daily inspiration track with its upbeat lyrics:

Just hop out of the bed
Go ahead face the day
Who cares what you know
Don’t let that in the way no way
Shut out all the doubt
Just get up and go

The entire album has such an uplifting feel to it, you can’t help but smile while listening and singing along – as well as the occasional dancing. One of my favorites off the album would be one of the last tracks, “Beautiful”, which features vocals from Enrique Iglesias. My only problem with the song is that it feels a bit too over-produced, which is a feeling I get from a lot of the tracks on this album. Minogue has such a naturally amazing voice that its a shame that the production team fealt the need to overpolish it. Maybe that’s the sound she/they were going for but to me its unneccesary – then again thats kinda like telling a girl she looks better with out makeup – c’est la vie. Either way, Kylie Minogue is beautiful, talented, and an inspiration to many women (and men) across the globe. Some of these newer artists could learn a thing or two from her on how to be a proper pop star and still bring the sexy. I hope she continues to record many more albums and graces us with her talents for years to come.
